1992 Topps #950 Rick Dempsey

Been awhile since I've posted here, but I'm still plugging away. Here's the latest 1992 Topps custom.

Rick Dempsey was one of just a handful of people to play in the Majors in 4 different decades. He came up in 1969 with the Minnesota Twins. He played with them through the 1972 season. He played with the New York Yankees from 1973 to June 1976 when he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, the team he is most famous for playing with. He was with them for a decade, staying with them through the 1986 season, and winning World Series MVP in 1983 during their World Championship season. He was with the Cleveland Indians for the 1987 season, spent 1988 through 1990 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, serving as the backup catcher in 1988, when they won the World Series. After spending the 1991 season with the Milwaukee Brewers, he returned to the Orioles for the 1992 season, his last. After playing, he got into coaching, serving with the Dodgers for the 1999 and 2000 seasons, and with the Baltimore Orioles from 2005 to 2006.

Rick got his first Topps card in the 1972 set. He was left off of the 1973 set, but then appeared in the 1974 through 1987 Topps sets. He got a 1987 Topps Traded card, was missing from the 1988 set, and then got into his last 3 Topps series in the 1989, 1990, and 1991 Topps sets. He is missing cards from the 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1973 Traded, 1988, 1988 Traded, 1991 Traded, 1992 Traded, and 1993 Topps sets from his playing career, and the 1999 Traded, 2000, 2001, 2005 Traded, 2006, and 2007 Topps sets from his coaching career.
There are still a ton of Dempsey cards to be made, but I have finished his 1993 Topps playing sunset card, and his 2000 and 2001 Topps coach cards.

Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #913 Chris George

Chris George played 2 games in the Majors, both in 1992 for the Brewers. He gave up 2 runs in 6 innings for a 3.00 ERA with a 0-0 record.

Chris missed out on a 1992 Topps card, but strangely, appeared in the 1993 Topps set, even though he didn't pitch in the Majors in 1992 or 1993. This 1992 Topps custom completes George's career Topps run.

I have finished the 1983 Topps regular set since my last post, and along with the 1992 Topps set and 1994 Topps set, it marks the 3rd Topps set I have completed. I am also finishing the 1983 Topps Traded set to go along with it for use in the upcoming ARAIG Baseball League in February that will play out the 1983 season. Once the Traded set is complete, it will basically complete the 1984 Topps set, since anyone who played in 1983 will have a card picturing them with their correct team. After that, I'll probably work on some checklists (1998, 2000, 1997, 1988 and 1986), and then probably try to complete the 1998 Topps set. I hope sometime this next year to have every checklist finished (along with the templates), and then to start knocking customs off of my lists.

Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #894 Jim Austin

Jim Austin played 3 seasons in the Majors, all for the Milwaukee Brewers. He played from 1991-1993, posting a 6-4 record with a 3.06 ERA and 48 Strikeouts.

Jim only has 1 regular Topps card, in the 1993 set. This 1992 Topps rookie leaves Jim only needing a 1994 Topps card to complete his career Topps run. While researching Jim's cards, I found his 1994 Team Stadium Club card which lists him as a New York Yankee, and actually pictures him in a Yankee uni on the front (he is pictured as a Brewer on the back).  Never would've known that.

I worked on a partial 2017 Topps checklist on my other blog. Not too many cards, but coaches and managers need to be done. Once the Series 2 and Update checklist are done, I will start on listing actual player cards.

Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #887 Jim Hunter

Jim Hunter got into a total of 8 games in the Majors, all in 1991 with the Brewers.

He only has 2 baseball cards from major sets, a 1992 Score card, and a 1992 Topps Debut card. Jim never got a card in the 1992 Topps main set, which would've been his first and final Topps card. This custom finishes his short career Topps run.

I've been working on 1990 templates for my other blog, and I think I've found a breakthrough that will let me be able to make multiple templates for each team a lot easier. I'm hoping to test it out later tonight. I have the 1990 Topps checklist ready to finalize, so once I finish the AL templates, that set will be good to go. The 1991 set may take a while, so I might focus my efforts on finishing the 2001 checklist or perhaps making templates of the Detroit Tigers from 1991-2007 or so (they are my favorite team). I'll also work on making some pages on the sidebar with the main pages for each set I have complete checklists and templates for (1989, soon to be 1990 and 2001). The 1996 and 2000 Topps sets have the templates done, but I still need complete checklists for them. As I am finalizing the checklists, I am also working on making the checklist cards (front and back), and I am actually printing those out and putting them in my checklist binder, and they look pretty sweet and finalize the set.

Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #877 Tim McIntosh

Tom McIntosh was a top prospect for the Brewers in the early '90's. He made his debut in 1990 with the Brew Crew and  stayed with them until the first few days of the 1993 season. He was selected off waivers by the Expos and finished the '93 season with them. He stayed in the minors in 1994, played the 1995 season in Japan, and played his final season with the Yankees in 1996.
I got to meet Tim a few years ago when he was a minor league coach. He signed a few cards for me and talked about his time with the Yankees. He said he didn't get a ring in 1996 (even though he was part of the club that won the World Series that year), but that he still respected George Steinbrenner. That really surprised me because if I didn't get a ring, I would be pissed, and I would probably blame the top, which would've been ol' Pennybags Steinbrenner. The fact that Tim was so nice made me even more sad that he didn't get a ring and didn't get much of a shot in the Majors.

Tim appeared on a 1991 Topps future stars subset card, was skipped in 1992, and got in the 1993 set, which was his final Topps card. He is missing from the '92, '94, and '97 sets. This 1992 Topps custom leaves Tim with only 2 cards needing to be made to complete his career Topps run.

My softball game got rained out on Monday, which sucks, because it was a doubleheader, but I guess it was ok, because my Batting Average is still 1.000 for another week. The closing date got pushed back on our house due to them needing some papers that might take 10 days to get in their hands. Now we are scheduled to close on the 28th and have to be out of the apartment by the 1st. Not looking forward to the short deadline, but I think we can do it. We have a baby shower on Sunday, and couple that with the entire bakery being on sale at work, and I'm about ready to go crazy. Just 1 more month, and hopefully we'll be moved in, people will be back from vacation at work, and I will have some normalcy in my life. I'll keep making customs when I can. Thanks for checking out my latest one.

1992 Topps Don August

It's been far too long since I've posted a 1992 Topps card on this blog. I have been doing alot of cards on my other blog, Topps cards that never Were, and have been doing this during my free time as well. Rest assured, I have not given up on this blog and my mission to give a 1992 Topps card to everyone who played a game in 1991, and I also have a little more motivation to get this project going again.

About a week ago, a reader of my other blog, Paul, left me a comment that basically said that he was wanting to make missing cards for players from 1990-1994. I had made a post on my other blog basically asking for readers ideas, thoughts, and if possible, help in making custom cards. I think that if a group of custom card makers got together, shared templates, photos, time, and skills, that they could make a complete custom set like I am with the 1992 set, and do it in a shorter time period than if a single person were to do it themself. Well, I think Paul's ideas are very similar to mine, so I made a post (scheduled to publish on Saturday November 15, with a few templates (fronts and backs) from 1991 Donruss and 1992 Upper Deck, some screenshots from the process of making a custom card, tips, and basically outlined how to make a custom card, front and back. I really hope the post inspires interest in more custom card makers, and that maybe a group of us can band together and finish a few sets by making cards that never were.

With all that being said, I have been inspired to try to put a dent in the 1992 Topps set again. I made a 1992 Topps Mike Scott for my other blog, and that will be up tomorrow, and today I have a 1992 Topps Don August for this one, and am halfway done with a 1992 Topps Terry Puhl. Don pitched in the 1984 Olympics, and played for 4 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. I got the photo from his Twitter page. I don't have a Twitter, but if anyone who reads this does and would be kind enough to share this post with him, his Twitter handle is @DonAugust38 . I have a few autographed Don August cards in my collection that he signed through the mail for me, and wish I could've printed this one and sent it to him. Maybe this next year I will print some of these.

Thanks to anyone who reads this blog, and I promise to get some more cards done and get this little blog rolling again.
