1992 Topps #947 Dmitri Young Draft Pick

Dmitri Young was a decent hitter, who I actually got to meet a few times.
He came up to the Majors in 1996 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and played with them through 1997. He was traded to the Reds, and spent 1998 through 2001 with them. He got his big break and was traded to the Detroit Tigers, and spent 2002-2006 with them, hitting 3 HRs on Opening Day in 2005 and making the All-Star team in 2003. He played 2007-2008 with the Washington Nationals, making the All-Star team and winning Comeback player of the Year in 2007.

He appeared on his first Topps card in 1997. He appeared in the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 Topps regular sets, and the 2002 Topps Traded set. He got into the 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Topps sets, the 2007 Topps Update, and 2008 Topps sets.

He is missing cards from the 1996 Topps Traded, 1998 Topps Traded, 2001 Topps Traded, 2006 Topps Traded, and 2009 Topps sets.

I met him in Spring Training a few times, and he was quite the character. Didn't like to sign autographs, but he did one time for me and a few others. He kind of got on to us for not asking him how his day was and only wanting autographs. After one of us asked him how he was, he was a little happier. His brother Delmon also played in the Majors, and I got his autograph in Spring Training in about the same area as where I got Dmitri's.

1992 Topps #936 Stan Royer

Stan Royer played in the Major Leagues from 1991 to 1994. He was selected by the Oakland Athletics as the 16th pick in the 1988 MLB draft. He got swapped to the St. Louis Cardinals in the Willie McGee deal in 1990, and made his MLB debut with them in 1991. He played for the Cards in 1992 and 1993, and split 1994 with the Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox.

Royer only has 1 Topps card, a 1993 Topps Coming Attraction card. He is missing cards in the 1992, 1994, and 1995 Topps sets. I have also added him to the '89 Topps set as part of the Draft Picks subset. This 1992 Topps custom takes care of his '92 card, and I have also made his 1994 Topps card while finishing that set a while back.

I may have actually saw Stan play in Spring Training of 1993. I was 10, and my dad took me to a Tigers-Cardinals game in Lakeland, FL where we lived. I don't remember who pitched or anything about who appeared in the game, but it was preseason, and many of the stars don't make road trips, so there was a decent chance that Stan appeared in the game at some point.

Things have been kind of crazy in my life lately, but perhaps, they are getting back to normal. I just got 200 9-page pockets, and will be putting in my loose cards of the last 4 important teams in the AL (Oakland, Seattle, Texas, and Toronto), then the loose Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay (Devil) Ray cards, then my Favorite Players (been waiting about a year to do so), then a few other special binder cards (Highlights, rookies, sunset cards, shiny cards), and maybe if there are enough pages left, the New York Yankees. You should be seeing some of this reflected in my other blog, as I will be updating my Favorite Player pages with pictures of all of the cards, as well as lists of what I have, to make trading easier. This may take a while, but stay tuned.

1992 Topps #872 Jamie Moyer

Jamie played in MLB for 25 seasons. He came up all the way back in 1986 with the Cubs, and played with them through 1988. He spent 1989 and 1990 with the Rangers, and 1991 with the Cardinals. After spending 1992 in the minors, he played with the Baltimore Orioles from 1993-1995. He spent the first part of 1996 with the Red Sox, and then got traded to the Seattle Mariners, whom he pitched with for the next decade until the middle of the 2006 season. He was traded to the Phillies that year, and stayed with them through 2010, winning a World Series title in 2008 with them. He missed the entire 2011 season with an injury, and spend his last season with the Rockies in 2012 before retiring.

He got his first Topps card in the 1987 set, and appeared in the next 4 sets. He missed the 1992 set, but was back for 1994 and 1995. He was left off of the 1996 set, and then appeared in the regular Topps set from 1997-2009. He got a card in the Update set in 2010, and was back in the regular set for 2011. Even though he didn't pitch in 2011, he got a card in the 2012 Update set (2 in fact, as one was a season highlight checklist). The '12 Update cards would be his last 2 Topps cards, since he was left off of the 2013 set. So for pitching in 25 years, that's not to bad, only left off of 3 sets. This 1992 Topps custom checks 1 off of the list, only leaving his 1996 and 2013 cards to give him a complete Topps run.

It was pretty tough to find picture of Moyer in a Cards uniform, and I had to steal this one from his '91 Stadium Club card. This card was one of the few cards I had to make with the League Leader designation on the back since he led the NL in Earned Runs in 1987.

1992 Topps Luis Alicea

Luis Alicea played in the Majors from 1988-2002. He came up in '88 with the Cardinals, spent '89 and '90 in the minors, and then made it back to St. Louis from 1991-1994. He played with the Red Sox in 1995, came back to the Cardinals in 1996, and played for the Angels in 1997. He suited up for the Rangers from 1998-2000 and finished his career with 2 seasons in Kansas City. After he retired, he made it back to the Majors and a 1st base coach with the Red Sox from 2007-2008, winning a World Series ring in 2007, and then with the Mets in 2009.

Luis appeared on number of Topps sets during his career, the first being the '88 Traded set. He got into the next years' set, was in the minors for 2 years, and was left out of the '92 set. He got into the '93, '94, '95, and '96 sets, before being left off of the 1997 set. He was back in the '98 set, missed the '99 and '00 sets, and got his final Topps appearance in the 2001 set with the Rangers. He only needs 4 cards to complete his career Topps run with the '92 that I made, and there are pictures of him, so I may finish them in the future.

This was a pretty standard card to make. Don't remember where I got the photo, but I believe it was from another card.

1992 Topps Rod Brewer

Rod Brewer played in MLB from 1990-1993 with the Cardinals. The only regular edition Topps card he received was in the 1993 set. He did appear in the 1991 Topps Debut set and a few Stadium Club issues. This would've been his 2nd Topps card had Topps included him in the '91 set as a rookie.

I never knew that he lived in Florida. I've heard a few co-workers mentioning Eustis like it's near where I live, and turns out it is about an hour away. I vaguely remember going to a Spring Training game in 1993 in Lakeland. The Tigers were taking on the Cardinals, and a fellow autograph seeker left their binder open on the ground, and I remember seeing a '93 Topps Rod Brewer card. Can't remember if it was signed or not, but that is my first memory of Rod Brewer. If I were a little older, I would've probably had a card or two of Rod and maybe got it signed, but I was 10 and didn't realize that you have to show up around 10 AM for a 1 PM game in order to get autographs of the visiting team, 6 AM for the home team. My parents would've never gone for that unless I could drive myself.

I did about 15 backs yesterday and am up to card #1044. Not sure when I'll get to work on some more. We are house sitting (boo!!!) for the next few days and the only day off this week is on Tuesday and I'll probably be at a doctors appointment for most of the day. So is life when you are an adult...

1992 Topps Tim Sherrill

Tim Sherrill only pitched 2 years in the Majors, 1990 and 1991. He appeared in the '91 Topps set, and the '91 Topps Debut set, and the hard to find '90 Topps TV Cardinals set, but didn't get a '92 Topps card. He pitched in the minors in '93, before retiring. After his baseball career, he went on to a professional fishing career. Greatest 21 Days did a nice write-up on Sherrill's Minor League career and post-playing activities. From what I could find, Sherrill looked like he was a decent reliever in the minors, closing for a few teams, and getting the call to the Majors after 3 seasons. 

I finished the back to card #890 today, and I'll probably try to get to the 900's on Monday. Thanks for checking out the latest card in my custom 1992 Topps set.

1992 Topps Bob McClure

Bob McClure was a lefty specialist who appeared on many Topps cards throughout the years. He missed out on getting a Topps card after his final 2 seasons (the 1992 and 1993 Topps sets).

1992 Topps Mark Clark

Mark Clark made his debut in 1991 for the St. Louis Cardinals, but didn't appear in the regular 1992 Topps set. He was in the 1992 Topps Debut set (card # 35) , and was in the 1993 Topps regular set (card # 339). I know, because I have that card signed! He pitched in 10 Big League seasons, and played on some very good Cleveland Indians teams.
