1992 Topps #930 Dave Anderson

Dave Anderson played in the Majors from 1983-1992. He spent 1983 through 1989 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, played 1990 and 1991 with the San Francisco Giants, and came back to the Dodgers for his final season in 1992. After his playing career, he spent 2009 through 2013 as a coach for the Texas Rangers.

Dave appeared on Topps cards for most of his career, getting into the 1984 through 1991 Topps sets. He is missing a 1983 Topps Traded, 1990 Topps Traded, 1992 Topps Traded, 1993 Topps card to complete his career Topps run for his playing days. As for coach cards, he is missing cards from the 2010 through 2014 Topps sets. I have covered a few of the missing cards from his playing days, making his 1983 Topps Traded rookie, and 1993 Topps sunset card.

I am close to finishing off the National League in the 1998 Topps set. Just have the Cardinals, Padres, and Giants to go (almost exactly 100 cards). Then on to the AL. Hopefully I can get it done by the end of the year, but I'm not making any promises. Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #920 Tom Herr

Tom Herr put up a decent career in the Bigs from 1979-1991. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1979 through the middle of the '88 season, winning a World Series in 1982 with them. He was traded to the Minnesota Twins in the middle of the 1988 season, and finished the season with them. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1989, and split 1990 with the Phillies and New York Mets. He played his last season in the Majors, 1991, with the Mets and the San Francisco Giants.

Tom got a Topps card in every set from 1980 to 1991. He is only missing a card in the 1992 set to finish his career Topps run. This '92 Topps custom I made finishes his career Topps run.

I have finished the 1986 Topps checklist (much thanks to Paul for doing the research), as well as the templates, which finishes the checklist and templates for every Topps set from 1986-2001. I am hard at work at my 2020 Topps Archives Lost Cards checklist, as well as making customs in the '98 Topps set. You can expect some fun cards in 2018. Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #897 Darnell Coles

Darnell Coles played in the Majors from 1983-1997. He played for the Mariners from 1983-1985, the Tigers in 1986 and part of 1987, the Pirates for the rest of 1987 and part of 1988, and then came back to Seattle for the remainder of 1988. He played 1989 with the Mariners and split 1990 with the Mariners and Tigers. He played 11 games with the Giants in 1991, and played for the Reds in 1992. He spent 1993 and 1994 with the Blie Jays, winning a World Series title in 1993. He played 1995 with the Cardinals, spent 1996 and part of 1997 in Japan playing ball, and finished out his playing career with the Colorado Rockies in 1997. He became a coach after he retired, and coached with the Detroit Tigers in 2014 and the Brewers from 2015 through the present.

Darnell appeared on a few sets during his playing career, with his first Topps card coming in the 1985 set. He got into the 1986 regular and Traded set, and then appeared in the 1987-1991 Topps sets, with the '91 version being his final one. Coles is missing cards from the 1984, 1993-1996, 1998, and 2015-2018  Topps sets to finish his career Topps run. This 1992 Topps custom was a little tricky to make since I was unable to find a photo of Coles in a Giants uniform. I took the photo from his 1991 Score card picturing him with the Tigers, and was able to take the Detroit logo off and paste a Giants one in its place. I think it came out pretty good, and certainly one of the better ones in my custom '92 set.

I finalized my COMC order yesterday night, so now I'm patiently waiting for it to be shipped, and I hope to post about it soon on my other blog. I also hope to add the final 1995 Topps checklist that Paul helped me finish. Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #878 Rod Beck

Rod Beck played for 13 seasons in the Major Leagues. He made his debut in 1991 with the Giants, and stayed with them through the end of the 1997 season. He played with the Chicago Cubs in 1998 and 1999, but was traded to the Red Sox midway through the '99 season. He was with the Sox until the end of the 2001 season. He had Tommy John surgery at the end of the 2001 season, and spent 2002 in the minors at Iowa with the Chicago Cubs organization. During the season, he lived in a mobile home behind the stadium, letting fans come over while he would sign autographs and offer free beer. In 2003, he made it back to the Majors with the Padres, and finished his career with them in 2004.  Unfortunately, Beck passed away in 2007. I was fortunate enough to have got Beck's autograph through the mail in 2006 on a '93 Topps Gold and '98 Bowman Chrome card.

Rod never got a 1992 Topps card in the main set, but he did get in the '92 set (sort of). 1992 was the first year that parallel sets came inserted in packs, and Topps made a parallel ToppsGold set, where the box with the player and team names were highlighted in gold foil. Every card in the '92 set had the ToppsGold parallel card, but the set had 6 checklists in it. Instead of making ToppsGold checklist cards, Topps decided to give 6 players that weren't in the regular Topps set a ToppsGold card. Those players were Brian Williams, Terry Mathews, John Ramos, Terry McDaniel, Tony Perezchica, and Rod Beck. I chose to add these players to my custom 1992 set, since they didn't have regular Topps cards in 1992. I did this as well to players who appeared in the 1992 O-Pee-Chee set as All-Star replacement cards.

Rod appeared on a decent amount of Topps sets during his career. 1993 was the first set he appeared in, and he was in every Topps set from then until 1999. He was skipped from the 2000 and 2001 sets, and appeared on a 2002 Topps card, which was his final Topps card. He presumably wouldn't have got a card in the 2003 set since he didn't play in the Majors in '02. The '04 and '05 sets are missing Beck cards, which would've been his final 2 Topps issues. This custom gives him cards from the '92-'99 sets, leaving him with cards from the '00-'01 sets, and '04-'05 sets to give him a career Topps run.

I am making some headway on the checklist of the 2001 Topps set on my other blog. All of the NL teams are done, and I have all of the templates for the NL clubs done as well. I will probably start on the AL team checklists and templates sometime in October once we are moved into the new house and time warrants it. I hope to have them all done by the end of the year, but I don't know what's going to happen once our baby arrives in November. If you enjoy seeing these cards, check out my other blog. I basically am doing customs from the 1989-present Topps sets, and I am attempting to complete the 2001 set right now, followed by the 1989 set, 1990 set, 1991 set, and so on. I have been getting some help making the customs by a reader or two, so if that sounds like something you are into, please let me know.  Thanks for checking out my latest custom.

1992 Topps Rick Parker

Rick Parker was a journeyman Outfielder during the '90's. He came up with the Giants in 1990 and was with the in 1991. He played in the Minors in 1992, but got some action with the Astros in 1993. In '94 he played for the Mets, and in '95 and '96, he played with the Dodgers, his final 2 seasons in the Big Leagues.

As for Parker Topps cards, he got into the '90 Traded set, and the 1991 flagship issue. Other Topps cards included the 1991 Debut set, a 1992 Stadium Club card, and a 1993 Team Stadium Club card.
He was left off of the 1992 set probably because he only had 13 games in 1991.

Sometime in the near future, I will be putting a link (and perhaps a slideshow if my laptop will let me) to the photos of the entire set. Thanks for checking out the latest card in my set.

1992 Topps Mike Benjamin

Mike appeared in the 1990 Topps Debut set (card # 89), the 1991 Topps set (card # 791), the 1993 Topps set (card # 384), but was skipped over in the 1992 set. He was a steady middle-infielder, and had some great sideburns towards the end of his career (check out some of his Pittsburgh Pirates cards).
