1992 Topps #921 Doug Glanville Draft Pick

Doug Glanville spent a good deal of time in the Majors, and gained notoriety for his intelligence, and currently writes for the New York Times and ESPN. He made it to the Majors in 1996 with the Chicago Cubs, and played for them until the end of the 1997 season. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1998 to 2002. He split 2003 with the Texas Rangers and Cubs, and finished his career in 2004 with Phillies.

Doug got his first Topps card in the 1995 set, on an On Deck card that he shared with Darron Cox. He was left off of the 1997 set, but then got into the 1998 through 2005 Topps sets to finish his career Topps run. Doug is just missing a card in the 1997 Topps set to finish his career Topps run. I will probably make it and post it on my other blog to finish his career Topps run.

Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #919 Denny Martinez Season Highlights

Today's card is the 2nd Season Highlights subset card in my custom 1992 Topps set. Denny Martinez pitched a perfect game against the Dodgers in 1991, and only got a regular card and an All-Star card in the 1992 Topps set. Most other card companies, like Donruss, Fleer, Score, and I believe Upper Deck, all gave him a card commemorating the perfecto. This is actually an error card, as I left out an 'm' in the word 'game' in the 2nd sentence. It would've been cool pulling a card like this out of a pack in 1992. Too bad Topps didn't make any.

I have finished the 1997 Topps checklist, and have been working a little on making customs for a few projects. I am currently working on the 1998 set, doing some replacement player Pirates in the 1994 Topps Traded Update set (thanks to Gene Collier from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette for helping me get a complete roster!), and I am back at work trying to create a checklist for a fantasy 2020 Topps Archives: The Lost Cards set, which will feature missing Topps cards from different Topps sets in a set similar to the original Topps Archives ones.  Stay tuned for more on that on my other blog.

Life will be pretty crazy in the coming weeks, and I probably won't do a post before the new year, so have a Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you do or don't celebrate) and a Happy New Year!  Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps #916 Bret Saberhagen Season Highlights

Today's card is the first Season Highlight card in my set. Bret Saberhagen achieved many things during his career, including a World Series win, a Cy Young Award, and winning 20 games in a season. On August 26, 1991, he achieved the one thing he was missing, a no-hitter.

For this card, I kind of combined an All-Star card and a Draft Pick card. The back was basically a Record Breaker card.

There will be a few more Season Highlights cards in my 1992 Topps custom set, including another one coming up in the next few cards.

Thanks for checking out my latest card.

Subsets: What I've done so far

After finishing team sets of the Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and Minnesota Twins, I decided to step away from teams sets for a little while and finish all of the subset card fronts. I am still about 15 cards away from finishing them all, but I have got all of the World Series Highlight cards done, have 2 more Season Highlight cards to do, and 2 more All-Star cards to do. After those, I just have some Award cards, League Presidents and Commissioner cards, and I should be done with all of the subsets. I am in the process of moving, so this might take longer than normal, but I hope to have all of the subsets done by at least mid-April, and then start finishing team sets, starting in the National League, and going from the Chicago Cubs to the San Francisco Giants, and then the AL, going from the Baltimore Orioles, all the way through the Toronto Blue Jays, finishing all of the fronts in the set. Then will come the tough part of making backs, but at least I will have a picture of all of the fronts. Might even do a post showing the fronts of all of the cards in the set. Thanks for your patience, and thanks for checking out my blog.

1992 Topps Tony LaRussa All-Star

The manager for the 1991 AL All-Star team was Oakland A's skipper Tony LaRussa. Tony had led the 1990 A's to the 1991 AL Championship, and lost to the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. He was chosen as the AL's manager for the 1991 All-Star game, but was left off of Topps' 1992 All-Star subset. He was, however, given a base card in the set (card # 429). Here is his All-Star card.

1992 Topps Lou Piniella All-Star

For the first card added to the 1992 Topps set, I decided to give a card to the manager of the 1991 NL All-Star team, Lou Piniella. Lou led the Cincinatti Reds to the World Series title in 1990, and for his efforts was named the manager for the NL in the 1991 All-Star game. Topps had an All-Star subset, but didn't include managers in it. Lou also appears on a base card in the 1992 set (card # 321).
