1992 Topps #924 Tom Edens

Tom Edens played in the Majors from 1987 through 1995. He got called up to the New York Mets in 1987, saw time in the minors the next 2 years, spent 1990 with the Milwaukee Brewers, played in 1991 for the World Champion Minnesota Twins, stayed with them through 1992. He played for the Houston Astros in 1993 and 1994, was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies at the '94 Trading Deadline. He finished the season with them, and played his last year with the Chicago Cubs in 1995.

Tom only got 2 Topps cards, a 1991 Topps card, and a 1994 Topps card. He is missing cards from the 1988, 1992, 1995, and 1996 Topps sets. This '92 Topps custom crosses one of them off of the list.

I actually met Tom in 1996 while he was in Spring Training with the Kansas City Royals, and he was very nice, signing a softball and a 1994 Topps card for me.  Really wish I would've had more of his cards back then. Here is the softball he signed.

I am almost a week away from going from my first card show, and I have a feeling I will have a bunch of cards after it is over with. Thanks to everyone who answered questions for me on my previous post. I recently worked out a trade with a Mark Canha collector after pulling his 2017 Topps Series 2 printing plate from a pack, and got a number of nice Rays cards and also some PC guys. I will post about that pretty soon. Adam from ARP Smith's Sportscard obsession and Greg from Night Owl Cards have both generously offered to send me some Rays cards. In the next few days, 2018 Topps Series 1 should be out, and I hope to get at least a few packs of it. Finally, even though I have a +/- $20 budget for the card show, I hope to get some nice dime box deals and hopefully get at least 50 or so cards for my PC, Rays, Tigers, Highlights, Refractor/shiny, and rookie card binders. I can't wait to sort through them all.

Thanks for checking out my latest post.

1992 Topps Gary Wayne

Gary Wayne pitched in the Bigs from 1989-1994. He only got Topps cards in the '90, '91, and '93 Traded sets. He was part of the 1991 Minnesota Twins World Championship team, but only appeared in 8 games, which is probably why he didn't get a '92 card. He was a decent reliever and got some good Save and ERA totals in the Minors. He is a good ttm signer, so if you feel up to it, try to print this card and see if he likes it and let me know. I would love to know what some players think of my customs.

I did a few backs today, and am up to card #1022. I had a strange one today. I did the back for Warren Cromartie, who played for the Royals in 1991. He had played in the Majors in 1974, 1976-1983, and in 1991. In between 1983 and 1991, he spent 7 seasons in Japan, so there were 7 columns of stats that just read "Played in Japan". Haven't seen anything like that in any Topps set before.  Hope you are enjoying my slow completion of the 1992 Topps set and find some of the facts I am giving to be insightful. Thanks for checking out the latest card.

1992 Topps Carmelo Castillo

PLAYER BIO: Carmelo (Carmen) Castillo, Twins

YEARS IN MAJORS: 1982-1991

LAST TOPPS SET HE APPEARED IN: 1991

APPEARANCES IN FUTURE TOPPS SETS: None

REASON LEFT OFF OF THE 1992 TOPPS SET: He only appeared in 9 games in 1991, so it's pretty clear to see why TOPPS didn't include him in the '92 set.

NOTES:  This would've been Castillo's sunset card, although he did spend some time in Japan after MLB. This card was a little tricky for me once I started making the back. I went to Baseball-Reference like I usually do to get the stats for the back, and I typed in 'Carmen Castillo' and the search didn't find anything. I typed it in on Google, and it found me tons of cards, but then I noticed that some of his cards were listed under 'Carmelo Castillo'. I typed that into BB-Ref and that gave me what I wanted. I guess he was known by both names. Most of his Topps cards before 1990 have him listed as Carmen.  His '90 and '91 cards have him listed as Carmelo. I had originally had the front of the card with his name listed as Carmen, but I changed it to Carmelo so it would be like his final 2 Topps cards. I have both at the top of the post.
One final note, Castillo won a title with the Twins in '91, and not many '91 Twins are missing from the set surprisingly.

Thanks for checking out my latest card.

1992 Topps Gene Larkin World Series Highlights

I decided to add this card a little early, since it is next card in my "Topps Cards that never Were" blog. If you haven't checked it out, I would love for you to. Basically, I am making cards that I feel Topps should've put in some of their sets. Many of the cards are final cards of Hall of Fame and superstar players that Topps never made, some are rookie cards that Topps could've put in their Traded sets, others are highlights or oddball cards that would've added some spark to classic Topps sets. And, like my 1992 Topps set, all of the cards have backs. I am doing the cards in series of 25, and thinking if I get enough interest, maybe selling the cards individually or in sets.
This Gene Larkin 1992 World Series Highlights card will be card #18 in Series 1. I can't believe that none of the major baseball card makers gave Gene a World Series highlight card in 1992. He got the World Series winning hit in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series! That at least deserves a highlight subset card, if not, an insert. Jack Morris didn't get a card either, and I haven't done the research, but I don't think any major card makers had World Series cards, save for the Stadium Club Dome set (which was released in 1993). In my additions to the 1992 Topps set, I have this card, World Series cards of Jack Morris, Kirby Puckett, Mark Lemke, Jerry Willard, cards of the ALCS and NLCS MVPs, card for every No-Hitter, Otis Nixon's 6 Stolen Base game, cards of every coach, and a few extra Draft Picks. Basically, the kinds of cards I wish Topps would put in their sets every year, along with everyone who played a game. I can always hope for them to listen next year......

1992 Topps Jarvis Brown

Jarvis Brown was called up by the Minnesota Twins in late 1991, and provided them with good defense in the outfield, and speed on the bases as a pinch-runner. He won a World Championship ring with the Twins in 1991, but was left off of the 1992 set, and although he appears in the 1992 Topps Debut set (card # 24), and makes a few appearances on Topps Stadium Club cards, he does not have a Topps base card despite his career lasting more than a few seasons.
