1992 Topps #926 Rick Reed

 Rick Reed played in the Majors from 1988 until 2003. He got a good number of cards, but most of them came after he was a replacement player and re-invented himself as a pitcher.  He pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1988 to 1991, the Kansas City Royals in 1992 and part of 1993, the Texas Rangers from part of 1993 to 1994, the Cincinnati Reds in 1995, the New York Mets from 1997 through 2001 when he was traded to the Minnesota Twins during midseason, and played with them through 2003, his final Big League season.

Rick got his first Topps card in 1993. He didn't get into another Topps set until 1998, but after that he appeared in every set through 2004, which was his final Topps card. He is missing cards from the 1989 through 1992 Topps sets, and the 1994 through 1996 Topps sets. I finished his 1992 and 1994 Topps cards, and now he only has the 1989, 1990, 1991, 1995, and 1996 sets that he needs a card from. I will also make a card of him from the 1994 Topps Traded Update set for when he was a replacement player with the Reds. Here is the 1994 Topps regular version I made.

I have a lot of stuff going on right now (most of which you can read about on my other blog), so it may be a while before I post again, but I will keep plugging away at this set.

1992 Topps #886 Mark Huismann

Mark Huismann pitched for 9 seasons in the Majors. He came up to the Bigs in 1983 with the Royals and played with them until the middle of 1986 when the Mariners acquired him. He was on the 1985 World Series winning club with KC in '85. He split 1987 with the Mariners and Indians. The Tigers signed him for 1988, and he played with the Orioles in 1989. He spent his final 2 years in the Majors with the Pirates in 1990 and 1991.

Mark only appears in 2 Topps sets, 1985 and 1987. He is missing a bunch of cards, which are from 1984, 1986, and 1988-1991. This 1992 Topps custom is Marks final Topps card. I couldn't find a color photo of Mark in a Pirates uni, so I had to take this black and white one and colorize it. I didn't get the greens the fright color, and I think if I can find a better photo, I will definitely update this one.

I finished the final checklist to the 1989 Topps set on my other blog. Here is a link to the checklist. I'll give the set it's own page at some point with the checklist and all of the templates soon. I probably won't get to working on cards right yet, choosing rather to work on templates and checklists for the 1990-2000 Topps sets. 1992 Topps Pittsburgh Pirates team set

I decided to deviate from posting the cards in numerical order just this once and post the complete 1992 Topps Pittsburgh Pirates team set. Matt from Battlin' Bucs recently made some sweet Superfractor customs, and when I commented on his post, he replied that he thought that finishing the 1992 Topps set was a great idea and that he is working on doing customs to finish all the Pirates missing from Topps sets. I decided that since I only had 3 more cards to do plus coaches of the Bucs, that I would finish the Pirates set. Most of them are decent looking except for the Huismann (had to colorize a black and white photo) and Jeff Schulz (no Pirates photo to use). While going over my master checklist, I realize that somewhere, I had missed 5 cards (#s 985-989), so I finished those as well as the Pirates set. I will post them sometime in the future along with cards 1077 through whatever I get up to. Hoping to finish the master set of all the players to leave only the coaches left to do.

1992 Topps Paul Miller

Paul Miller played 3 years in MLB, all for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He recieved a few cards from various companies, but none from the main Topps set. He made an appearance in the 1992 Topps Debut set. It had to be confusing for Pirates fans in the early '90's as they had pitchers named Paul Wagner, Kurt Miller, and Paul Miller in their farm systems at the time, and I believe all but Kurt Miller made their MLB Debut with the Pirates (Kurt Miller would make his with the Florida Marlins). Paul Miller finished his career with a perfect 1-0 record.

1992 Topps Jeff Richardson

This Jeff Richardson card gave me a little trouble. Jeff got traded to the Red Sox in 1993, and is featured in the 1993 Topps Traded set (card # T81). I mistakingly thought he was with the Red Sox in 1991, and I made a front of Jeff in a Red Sox uniform. When I started on the back, I realized that he played with the Pirates in 1991. When I tried to find images of Jeff in a Pirates uniform, I couldn't find any real good ones, so I had to try to create a throwback uni which you see here. Jeff appeared in the 1990 Topps Debut set (card #100), and the previously mentioned 1993 Topps Traded set, but not in the 1992 set.
