It has been a few years, but I figured I would try posting again. Todays card is #956, Cincinnati Red Tim Layana. Tim appeared with the Reds in the 1990 and 1991 seasons, winning a World Series title in ‘90. He pitched in the minors in 1992, while finishing up his MLB career in 1992 with the San Francisco Giants.
Tim’s first Topps card appeared in the 1990 Topps Traded set, and got his final card in the 1991 regular set. He is missing cards from the 1992 Topps set, the 1993 Topps Traded set, and the 1994 regular Topps set. With the full 1993 and 1994 Topps sets being finished, that gives Mr. Layana his career Topps run.
That’s about all I have on Layana, other than the sad fact that he passed away just 6 years after his last MLB game in 1999 when he was involved in a car accident.
I have been working on a number of ‘90’s Topps sets since the last post, with now the 1991-1994, and 1998 sets being completed along with the Traded sets to go with them. My newest project is the 1995 set, and I’ll continue going up with 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 1990 in order to finish every player in the ‘90’s, and every 1990’s Topps set. After that, I’ll go 2001, and work from 1985 to 1989 in order, which when finished will give me a completed Topps run of missing players from 1983-2001.
Thanks for checking out my latest post.
