1992 Topps #900 Cory Snyder

                                                          

Today's card is the 3rd superstar number card in my set, following #800 Dave Parker (another Blue Jay), and #850 Mike Scott.  Cory Snyder played in the Majors from 1986-1994. He played for the Cleveland Indians from 1986-1990. He split 1991 with the Chicago White Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays. 1992 was spent with the San Francisco Giants, and he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in his final 2 MLB seasons, 1993 and 1994.

Cory was part of the 1985 Topps USA baseball team subset, which was his rookie card. He appeared in the 1987-1991 Topps regular sets. He was in the 1991 Traded and 1992 Traded sets, then got a card in the 1993 and 1994 regular editions. Cory was left out of the 1992 regular and 1995 regular Topps sets. His career Topps run is complete now that I made this 1992 Topps custom, as well as his 1995 Topps sunset card that I will post on my other blog once it comes up.

I've done a little work on checklists today, even though it probably won't be noticed. Michael from the custom card group on Facebook has been doing some World Series highlight cards, so I thought I would make sure I have World Series highlight cards for every game, as well as some season highlight cards in every set that I have done so far. I've completed every set through 1996, and updated the checklist cards for every set that I have completed checklists for (1989-1993). I would like to add stadium cards and team photo cards for every set, but besides having to find a ton of team photos that probably don't exist, I really don't want to fix checklist cards for 5 sets. I might add them for the 1995-2000 sets. Tomorrow, I will try to work on completing the 1996 checklist. Thanks for checking out my latest card.

1992 Topps #896 Dave Hansen

Dave Hansen played in the Majors from 1990-2005. He made it back to the Bigs as a coach in 2011, and he is still coaching as of 2017. Dave played for the Dodgers from 1990-1996, played for the Cubs in 1997, spent 1998 in Japan, came back to the Dodgers from 1999-2002. He played for the Padres from 2003 through mid-season of 2004, and spent the rest of 2004 and all of 2005 with the Seattle Mariners, retiring after the season. He set a Major League record with 7 pinch-hit Home Runs in 2000. In 2011, Dave started his coaching career with the Dodgers. He stayed with them through the end of the 2012 season. He spent 2013 with the Seattle Mariners, and has been with the Angels from 2014 through the present.

Dave only appeared in 4 Topps sets, 1993, 1994, 1995, and 2001. He is missing cards from the 1991, 1996-2000, and 2002-2006 Topps sets. This 1992 Topps custom covers his 2nd Topps card. For his coaching career, Dave is missing cards from the 2012-2017 Topps sets.

I have the longer version on my other blog, so here is the short version of what I've been up to. Ordered a bunch of cards online, will post about them when I get them all. My boss has been giving me a bunch of junk wax cards. The 1995 Topps custom checklist is almost done. Things are busy at home, but blogging, customs, and real cards keep me sane sometimes. 1992 Topps #882 Greg Smith

Greg Smith played 3 years in the Majors. He came up in 1989 with the Cubs, played with them in 1990, was traded to the Dodgers in December of that year, and then played 5 games for them in 1991.
After his career, he became a scout.
Greg is on a 2-player rookie card in the 1990 Fleer set, sharing his with Auburn alum, former San Francisco Giant,  and Favorite Player of mine Stu Tate. I actually had a copy that was autographed by both after I had sent it in the mail to each player and received it back both times signed, but I think I sold it when I downsized a bunch of my autograph collection. I'll have to try to get a signed copy again.

Smith only has 1 Topps card, a 1991 version. He appeared in the 1990 Topps Debut set, but was left off of the main set, which seems strange, because he was considered a prospect for the Cubs back then. Greg is only missing his 1990 Topps rookie card after I made this 1992 Topps custom.

According to his Wikipedia page, it says Greg was homecoming king at his high school in 1985. It's kind of crazy the stuff I have learned about players while doing research for posts, and I will try to pass some along as I find it.

I'm still working on templates for the 2000 Topps set, and I should finish it by the end of this week and then move on to the '89 Topps set. I'll try to post every single template that I have in the next month before baby comes so if you want to try to do a custom set like this one that you will have some templates to help get you started. No softball game last night, I guess because of the rain. I might just have to end up finishing the season with the .667 Batting Average. If we get 2-3 more rainouts, it will be time for baby, and by the time I'm ready to play again, the season should almost be over. If only I would've swung at that last pitch, maybe I'd have a 1.000 Average for the season!  Next year!  Thanks for checking out my latest custom.

1992 Topps Tom Goodwin

Tom Goodwin was called up to the Majors in September 1991 when the rosters expanded, and made his MLB debut on the 1st. He appeared in the '92 Topps debut set, but the regular Topps issue passed on him. 

Tom appeared on many more cards throughout his long MLB career, including his first regular Topps issue in 1993, which I was lucky enough to get signed while he was in Spring Training with the Royals in the mid-'90's. I think I still have it in one of my favorite card binders.

This card was a little difficult to make becuase the only suitable Dodgers photos I could find of Tom were from his 2nd appearance with the club where the uniforms are different. I think I got this one off of another card, but had to really stretch out the sides to make the photo work.  

I finished the backs to every coach in the American League today, and started on the NL teams and did the Braves and Cubs. That leaves me with only 108 more backs to go, and I'm happy to say that the coach cards are going alot faster than I thought they would. Only 10 more teams to go, and I will be done with every coach card, with just a few draft picks, award winners, 3 managers, a few highlights, executives, and some random player cards and the set will be done. 1992 Topps Mike Christopher

It's been forever since I've added a card with a back on this blog, so I thought I would try to make some and get the project going again. I made the back to Mike Christopher's card today, which is card #823 in the 1992 Topps set. 

Mike's first year in the Majors was 1991, and he got a card in the '92 Topps MLB Debut set, as well as '92 Stadium Club, which pictured him with his new team for 1992, the Cleveland Indians. He was left off of the '92 Topps set, but did appear on a prospect card in the '93 Topps set. I actually got that card signed by him in 1996 when he was in Spring Training with the Detroit Tigers in 1996, his final season. After playing with the Dodgers in '91, he pitched with Cleveland in '92 and '93, and with the Tigers in '95 and '96. He is missing cards in the '94, '96, and '97 Topps sets, so he really only got the prospect card in the '93 set as far as regular base Topps sets are concerned. 

I have been organizing my baseball card binders lately, and upon working on the Giants binder, I discovered I somehow didn't include Eric Gunderson in my set. I will be fixing that and making his card soon, and I'll post it, and hopefully that will be the end of all the omissions in my set.
