1992 Topps #961 John Morris

Todays missing 1992 Topps card is #961 John Morris.

John made his Major League debut in 1986 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played with them in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990 seasons. He spent 1991 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and his final season with the California Angels in 1992.

John got his first Topps card in 1987. He got into the 1988, 1989, and 1990 Topps sets, and that was it for him. He has missing cards from the 1986 Topps Traded, 1991 Topps, 1991 Topps Traded, 1992 Topps Traded, and 1993 Topps sets. His 1991 Topps, 1991 Topps Traded, 1992 Topps Traded, and 1993 Topps set cards have been done by me, so he is missing a lone 1986 Topps Traded set card to complete his career Topps run.

John was a spare outfielder and pinch-hitter for the majority of his career. He actually was drafted out of Seton Hall by the Kansas City Royals, and appeared on a 1985 Donruss Rated Rookie card with them. He hit .428 in college with 28 Home Runs and 125 RBIs in 3 seasons. At Jacksonville in ‘83, he was the Southern League MVP with a .287 Average, 23 Homers, and 91 Ribbies.
His career kind of took a turn for the worse in 1988 when he had to have surgery on a ruptured disc. He missed most of that year and played mostly as a pinch-hitter thereafter. His 1990 Score card pointed out the surgery, and noted that he was a good clubhouse guy who had excellent impersonations of Vince Coleman and Willie McGee. On the back of a minor league card it mentioned he started his college career off as a pitcher and that some hobbies included golf and photography.
Those are some random facts about his career. I’ll keep trying to add those to future cards.
Thanks for checking out my latest post.
